Last September 25-26, 2014, my students and I took a trip to the province of Aurora and visited the municipality of Baler. In Baler, my students and I observed the changes that happened in Baler as it grew, developed and thrived into a tourist spot for surfers and backpackers alike. During our tour, we visited historical sites significant to the municipality's history. Specifically, my students observed and plotted the changes that occurred in it's 400 year-old history. They were able to compare and contrast pictures taken centuries ago and compare it with those that they saw in the present. On the second day of our tour, we toured Baler's countryside, the purpose of the tour was to observe how different natural resources played a part in the growth and development of the municipality. My students observed how a natural resource like a waterfall was converted into an energy source for the community. Along the way they noted how the abundance of natural resources have been utilized to help the community thrive, apart from just being fisher folk, many residents have since become tour guides and operators.
