First Term
To start our study of History, we learned the skills of analyzing different resources, such as: primary and secondary resources. After learning how to analyze historical resources, we moved on to map reading and location. Using this skill, we learned how to use longitudes and latitudes to locate countries and places. We began our unit on history by inquiring into the different theories of the origin of the universe and the beginning of the world. For this term, we looked into the concept of civilization, we used Asian civilizations like Japan, China, and Southeast Asia; as well as European and Middle-Eastern ones such as: Greek and Egyptian civilizations to deepen our understanding of the concept and learn about the culture of these countries. At the end of the term, we applied our knowledge and understanding of civilizations and the skills , to create our own unique civilization.
Second Term
For the second term, we dug deeper into our study of Asian civilizations by looking at the following: culture, society, government, and philosophy. There were two highlights in our study of Asian history this term: our trip to China to learn all about ancient Chinese government, and invited a guest speaker, Mr. Santiago Castillo, to learn about Asian philosophy. At the end of the term, we created a video lecture on Asian philosophies and how these philosophies are still relevant in society.
Third Term
For the third term, we looked into how interaction and threats shaped the responses of ancient Asian civilizations. For interactions, we looked into how different Asian civilizations collaborated with other civilizations. For threats, we looked into the different kinds of internal threats such as civil wars and natural disasters, externally, we looked at colonization and invasions. Based on these investigations we looked into the changes that happen because of interaction and conflict. At the end of this unit, we created an argument paper on different issues present in Asia today.
