Energy
Our energy began with the analysis of energy sources: the renewable and non-renewable. My students were able to identify the differences of the energy sources that they were able to gather (nuclear, wind, solar, water, and etc...). My class also visited the country's electricity provider to learn more about how these sources of energy are transformed, transferred or even manipulated. At the end of the unit, my students produced different machines that made use of the sources of energy that they were able to identify (except nuclear energy) and present these in a science fair.
Changes in the Earth
For the unit on the changes of the earth, my students investigated on how the earth has changed by reading up on different resources. They learned about the way the earth moves and how certain things around them slowly decay through different factors. After, my students inquired into the different natural phenomena that have changed the earth such as: typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis; as well as those made by man: pollution, mining, overpopulation. My students analyzed how man responded to the natural and man-made changes to the earth. In the end, my students created a "survival kit" based on their expert groups (typhoons/floods, pollution, earthquakes) and presented these kits during a science fair.
