Economic Activity
In this unit, my students learned about Economics and economic activities. To inquire about this unit, my students learned some of the basic economic terms, such as: supply, demand, production, consumer, and producer. My students also inquired about how these basic terms work and are applied through the economics laws: supply and demand. To enrich their inquiry further and also a part of their final assessment, they set up their own business by borrowing capital from their parents and using this capital to buy different goods in a local market. They sold the products they bought from the market to their schoolmates. This assessment was also in preparation for the school's annual Christmas bazaar and my students were able to sell and market the products they had made.
Signs and Symbols
Our unit on signs and symbols began with an exploration into the different signs and symbols found around the school and its immediate vicinity. After identifying the signs and symbols found around the school, as a class, we identified the purpose and forms of signs and symbols. Likewise my students were also able to differentiate a sign from a symbol. Throughout the unit, we explored specialized symbols and signs in specialized areas (music, writing, sign language, etc...). At the end of the unit, my students created a school mascot based on the values, philosophy and the vision-mission of the school. Likewise, my students realized the importance and significance of signs and symbols as a form of communication and a facilitator of communication.
